The goals of institute scientific activities are the development of scientific knowledge and cooperation, to create higher added value through partnerships with business and by passing scientific knowledge, integration into international research area, improvement of professional qualification of teachers and professors, complementing the study programs with the latest scientific and practical knowledge, preparation of highly qualified specialist.

The main subject of scientific research is biotechnologies in the engineering systems. Taking into account the priorities of Lithuania and the European Union the research is being carried out in the development of sustainable agricultural production, its primary processing by fostering a cleaner and more harmonious environment. In order to ensure the unity of science and studies, the Institute conducts cross-sectoral research in the field of technology sciences: environmental, energy and thermo engineering; electrical and electronics engineering. Fundamental and applied research and experimental development are carried out.

The Institute carries out high-level scientific research in line with the University’s strategic objectives, prepares scientists, participates in national, regional and international research programs and projects, cooperates with national and foreign partners in scientific fields, and applies research results in practice. Targeted research is being developed in the formulation of scientifically based recommendations for the formation of agricultural, food and bioenergy policies by the development of new methods, processes and technologies and by development of modern, dynamic, competitive farming, food industry by rationally using   natural resources, improving the quality of produced products, preserving the environment and ensuring rapid dissemination of scientific innovations and best practices.

The impact of the Institute on the development of regions and the country as a whole is evident through applied research aimed at addressing important issues for clients engaged in these regions. The work of the Institute scientists is noticeable at the University and beyond.
