The hands-on training was organized by BioTEC and the Department of Plant Biology and Food Sciences of the Faculty of Agronomy at Vytautas Magnus University Agriculture Academy.

During the practical training, knowledge on the capabilities of equipment designed for supercritical carbon dioxide extraction and subcritical solvent extraction, as well as on extraction processes, was shared by Aistis Petruškevičius, Junior Researcher at VMU Agriculture Academy.

During the practical seminar, knowledge about soil gas measurements under natural field conditions was shared by an applications specialist for LI-COR Environmental products from the company’s division in Germany.

Event organizers: BioTEC, Vildoma, LI-COR, VMU Agriculture Academy, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agroecosystems and Soil Sciences, Institute of Biology and Plant Biotechnology, Experimental Station.

Program of the workshop

The seminar is organized by BioTEC and the Department of Agroecosystems and Soil Science at the Faculty of Agronomy of the Vytautas Magnus University Agriculture Academy.

Seminar speakers:
Senior researchers at BioTEC, Prof. Dr. Peter Leinweber and Prof. Dr. Yakov Kuzyakov.
Also, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Velemir Ninkovich from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, and Prof. Dr. Hab. Łukasz Uzarowicz from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences.

The LiDAR scanner is used to create various surface models and determine the height and structure of various objects, e.g. may generate models of the earth’s surface, determining the height of plantations and many more.

Li-COR portable trace gas analyzers for N2O/H2O and CH4/CO2/H2O are designed to conduct advanced research by scientists in the field of Agronomy.

During the seminar, the possibilities and application of SimaPro software in scientific research were presented, research using SimaPro was reviewed.

The seminar was attended by the faculty members of Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Agronomy, also by research staff of Bioeconomy Research Institute.

Work shop on the use of underwater drone and water sampler in Lavysas lake

In the lake Lavysas, VMU AA scientists tested the capabilities of a new underwater drone and water sampler. Prof. Giovanni Bacaro (Department of Life Sciences, University of Trieste) joined the workshop (in the photo on the left).

Water sampler – 500 ml capacity device is designed to take water samples without contact with air in various water bodies up to 100 m deep. Innovative Virtual reality (VR) and Augmented reality (AR) technologies are used to work with this equipment

Training on the use of research stand for aerobic and anaerobic processing of plant biomass and organic waste

Research stand for aerobic and anaerobic processing of plant biomass and organic waste is designed to study, model and demonstrate the processes of aerobic and anaerobic processing of plant biomass and organic waste. Research on the biodegradation of biomass and organic waste is necessary for evaluating the potential of biogas and biomethane production, the efficiency of composting processes and the quality of the resulting products.
