Plant biotechnology is a rapidly developing research area whoseachievements have a huge impact on agriculture. Conventional breeding methods are extremely complicated and time consuming because they depend on cross pollination, seed germination and selection. Modern plant biotechnology has the potential to reduce the time needed for traditional breeding. Efficient plant regeneration techniques are needed to enable tissue culture technology for the application to plant breeding. Besides, biotechnology tools can improve plants resistance to biotic and abiotic factors in combination with increased yield and superior quality. Moreover, laboratory procedures assessing plant growth and development dependence on various exogenous factors are more rapid and replicable in comparison with field studies. The scope of laboratory activity is investigation of agricultural crop through in vitro and in vivo techniques.
Research topics:
- Evaluation of factors influencing plant‘s morphogenesis in vitro;
- Creation of initial breeding material of agricultural crops by biotechnological techniques;
- Investigation of influence of various factors (macro-, microelements, amino acids, plant protection measures etc.) on plants growth and development in vitro and in vivo;
- Plants micropropagation in vitro and in vivo.
